KTBdesigns Fancy Pink Cake
Materials Needed
I used worsted weight yarn “Bernat Satin” in light pink and dark pink and green for the stem. I used “Red Heart” worsted weight yarn for the cherry, and white baby weight sparkle yarn for the whipped cream.
Size 2.5, 3 mm crochet hook
Stitch marker I use a scrap of contrasting yarn
Yarn needle (large eyed)
Polyester Fiberfill
Notes
Finished cake measures 3”x 3”
A portion of this pattern is crochet in continuous spirals where the rounds are not joined. It will be stated if rounds are to be joined. When working in continuous rounds, place stitch marker at the beginning of each round.
Crochet Terms and Abbreviations
Chain…ch Fpdc…front post double crochet
Single crochet…. sc Bpdc…back post double crochet
Double crochet….dc Fpsc…front post single crochet
Slip stitch….ss
To crochet 2 stitches together….pick up the front loops only of the next 2 stitches, pull loop of yarn through both stitches together and proceed with stitch as usual.
Cake Top use light pink yarn and 3mm hook
1. Ch 2, work 6sc in second ch from hook.
2. Work 2sc in each stitch =12sc.
3. Work (1sc, 2sc in next stitch) x6 =18sc.
4. Work (2sc, 2sc in next stitch) x6 =24sc.
5. Work (3sc, 2sc in next stitch) x6 =30sc.
6. Work (4sc, 2sc in next stitch) x6 =36sc.
8. Work 36sc in back loops.
9-13. Work 36sc around. Bind off.
Cake Bottom use light pink yarn and 3mm hook
1. Ch 2, work 6sc in second ch from hook.
2. Work 2sc in each stitch =12sc.
3. Work (1sc, 2sc in next stitch) x6 =18sc.
4. Work (2sc, 2sc in next stitch) x6 =24sc.
5. Work (3sc, 2sc in next stitch) x6 =30sc.
6. Work (4sc, 2sc in next stitch) x6 =36sc. Bind off leaving 12” tail of yarn.
7. Stuff the cake with fiberfill (not too firmly, it distorts the shape if it is too firm). Sew the cake bottom to the
cake top using needle on tail of yarn and catching only one loop of yarn from each piece.
Icing use dark pink yarn and 3mm hook
1. Attach yarn to any remaining loop at the bottom of the cake (where the bottom was sewn to the top) and a sc
in each stitch around, ss to join. Bind off.
2. Attach yarn to any remaining loop of round 8 on the cake top, and work (3sc in next loop, 2ss) repeat
around, ss to join. Bind off.
Whipped cream use white baby weight sparkle yarn and 2.5mm hook
1. Ch 6, work 5dc across, starting in second ch from the hook.
2. Ch 2, turn, work 4fpdc.
3. Ch 2, turn, work 4bpdc.
4. Repeat rows 2 & 3 until piece measures 6 ½” long. Bind off leaving an 18” tail of yarn. Use needle on tail of
yarn to sew the 2 long sides of the piece together to make a long tube.
5. Place whipped cream in a circle shape on top of the cake and use needle on tail of yarn to sew it to the cake
top. Sew ends together. See photo.
Cherry and Stem use red and green yarn and 3mm hook
1. For the cherry… Ch 2, work 6sc in second ch from hook.
2. Work 2sc in each stitch =12sc.
3. Work 12sc around.
4. Work (sc next 2 together) x6. Bind off leaving a 6” tail of yarn. Use needle on tail of yarn to gather stitches
closed.
5. For the stem….Ch 14 tightly. Bind off leaving an 8” tail of yarn. Use needle on tail of yarn to sew the stem
to the top of the cherry. Sew cherry to top of cake.
